According to resources, GDPR is a rule regarding Data Privacy that is applied to all companies in the world that store or process personal data of the EU \/ European Union residents. The purpose of the GDPR is to provide better protection toward data privacy in the current digital economy by giving more freedom to individuals of their data and giving tighter regulations to those who manage or store it. This regulation is based on the EU Charter of Rights, which stipulates that EU citizens have the right to protect their personal data. This regulation came into force on 25 May 2018 and applies to all businesses in the world that store and process personal data, including businesses in Indonesia. This special regulation has also become one of the considerations in the drafting of the Personal Data Protection Draft Bill in Indonesia.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the first day of GDPR\u2019s implementation, many large technology companies broke the new rules. Facebook and its subsidiaries, Whatsapp and Instagram as well as Google, will face lawsuits for failing to comply with the GDPR. These companies could be subject to billions of dollars in fines if European regulators agree that they have indeed failed to comply with them (4% penalty of annual income each time they violate).<\/span><\/p>\n
